Ticking Clock

Time. Excruciatingly slow when I am waiting. Passing quickly when I pay it no mind. While I wait, particularly if I have a sense of urgency, the ticking seems to get louder. Filling my mind with each tick until that’s the only thing I can hear!

For those who aren’t believers in Christ, there is a sense of urgency. In church today, our pastor made a statement I hadn’t really pondered in quite a while. He said, “The opportunities God gives you to respond are not limitless.” There are many people in my life that haven’t accepted the free gift of eternal life with Christ.

They reject the idea that there is even an afterlife! They cannot comprehend we are eternal beings. We have been given the ability to choose. In Acts 16:30 a prison guard asks Paul and Silas, “What must I do to be saved?”

“So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.” Acts‬ ‭16:31‬(a)NKJV‬‬ http://bible.com/114/act.16.31.nkjv

Saved from what? Saved from having to pay the penalty for our sin. By believing, we accept Christ’s sacrifice of Himself as payment for our sin. He was beaten, spit upon, scourged, stabbed, bled, and died. He who lived a sinless life gave Himself for me because I am precious in the sight of God. All are precious in His sight and He desires each and every one to be saved.

Pastor John noted John 12:37:

“But although He had done so many signs before them, they did not believe in Him,”

‭‭During Jesus’ ministry he performed many miracles. He turned water into wine, he made the lame walk, he healed lepers, he made the blind see, he raised the dead, and fed 5,000 men and their wives and children with two fish and a few loaves. Amazing, the people watched Him and heard Him teach and yet they did not believe.

It’s hard for me to get my head around rejecting Him when I’ve just watched Him perform a miracle or listened to Him. Now, I accept Him on faith. Pastor John mentioned a quote he found, “If you can believe the first ten words of the Bible, you can believe the rest.” What are the first ten words, Genesis 1:1:

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

Christ is coming again! “Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭24:42‬ ‭NKJV‬‬. If you don’t know Christ and have been putting off making a decision, decide today! We don’t know how much longer He will wait. Pastor noted your time will run out in one of three ways, 1) Christ will return, 2) you will die, or 3) your heart will be hardened so that you won’t be able to believe.

Can you hear the ticking of the clock?
